Pokhara University
Pokhara University (PU) was established in 1996 as Nepal's fifth University. The central office of the university is located in Pokhara, Kaski district, Western Development Region. Along with Purbanchal University, PU was formed as part of the government's policy to pursue a multi-university system for improved access to higher education. The Prime Minister is the Chancellor of the University and the Minister for Education is the Pro-Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor is the principal administrator of the university.
Location
Pokhara University is located in Lekhnath Municipality of Kaski district, thirteen kilometer east to the heart of the Pokhara city. It has already built its academic complex in the serene and scenic location of seven lake city, Lekhnath in the lap of the beautiful Himalayan range and peaks such as Mt.Machhapuchre, Mt. Dhawlagiri and Mt. Annapurna. In addition, Begnas lake and Rupa lake are walking distance of its academic complex and central office. It is planning to develop the infrastructure for Pokhara University School of Engineering Sciences on the bank of Khudi river and School of Medical Sciences on the bank of Seti river, five minute walking distance from Prithivi High Way. Local community is generous to endow the land in the scenic and beautiful location for other potential schools and research center such as School of Education and Sports, School of Tourism and Hotel Management, and Herbal Research Center.

Vision and Mission
The vision of the university is to be a leader in the promotion of education and health tourism through quality higher education, health and community service in the South Asian region. The mission of Pokhara University is to develop as a Center of Excellence for Higher Education by excelling teaching, learning and research activities; contributing to the national development process by producing job market oriented, responsible, productive, service oriented and committed human resource; and linking the university system with the community services.
Major Activities
Pokhara university has started its academic activities as guided by the Pokhara University act 1996. Its main function is to produce skilled human resources necessary for the national development by providing quality education. In order to achieve such objectives, Semester system based curriculum and evaluation were carried out with high priority to practical knowledge and researches
- Pokhara University developed its three constituent academic institutions where Bachelor's and Master's Degrees programs are running.
- At present, there are 49 academic institutions under its affiliation with Bachelor, Master, M.Phil and Ph.D.degrees programs.
- Pokhara University has already constructed Central office building, Examination office building, and Academic building in Dhungepatan, Lekhnath Municipality. Other physical infrastructure are in the process of development.
Teaching
Pokhara University has adopted a semester system. All Bachelors degrees are of four years (delivered over eight semesters) and Masters degrees are of two years (delivered over four semesters). M. Phil degree is of one and half years (three semesters). Ph. D. program is in process.
There are three faculties:
- Faculty of Sciences and Technology
- Faculty of Management(School of Business)
- Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
There are about 5,400 students enrolled across all programs. In the Fifth Convocation of Pokhara University (held on January 20, 2006), 937 students graduated. This number will increase each year since Pokhara University is aiming to Graduate more than 1000 students per year.
